Doug Malan graduated from Salem Community High School in 2000. He received his Associate's Degree in Arts from Kaskaskia College in 2002. Immediately following his schooling, Doug started the process in becoming a Registered Representative with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He completed his Life & Health, Series 6 and Series 63 exams in 2003. Doug married his high school sweetheart, Jackie (Armbrust) Malan, in March of 2005 and they welcomed a son, Hunter, in January of 2008. In 2009, he completed his Series 7 exam which enables him to sell certain types of investment products. In 2010, Doug passed the Series 66 which allows him to do Advisory business. In 2012, Doug and Jackie welcomed a second child, their daughter Lexie and in 2016, their third child, daughter Felicity.

Doug joined his father, Greg Malan, in business in 2003, and now has over ten years of experience in the financial industry. He is now the financial planner and junior partner of MidAmerica Financial Resources, and he obtained his ChFC® in 2013. Candidates for the ChFC® designation must complete a minimum of eight courses and 16 hours of supervised examinations along with a comprehensive final exam. They must also fulfill stringent experience and ethics requirements. The American College has been awarding the ChFC® designation to highly qualified financial planners since 1982.

        As one of the financial planning's highest standard, the ChFC® program prepares professionals to meet the advanced financial needs of individuals, professionals and small business owners. ChFCs can identify and establish specific goals and then formulate, implement and monitor a comprehensive plan to pursue those goals. Individuals who earn a ChFC® can provide advice on a broad range of financial topics including financial planning, wealth accumulation and estate planning, income taxation, life and health insurance, business taxation and planning, investments and retirement planning.

In early 2015, Doug also earned the Retirement Income Certified Professional® (RICP®) professional designation from The American College. The RICP® educational curricula is one of the most complete and comprehensive program available to professional financial advisors looking to help their clients work towards creating sustainable retirement income. Individuals who earn their RICP® can provide advice on a broad range of retirement topics including income needs and objectives, estate issues and other risks to the retirement income planning, Social Security, health insurance and housing decisions, and income taxation.
